Happy 2010!

March 29, 2010 by Clara Kim

Yes, I’m a few months late… but hope everyone’s year is off to a fabulous start! Although I’ve been terribly remiss in updating the blog, I do have new photos in my portfolio and on my Facebook page, so please check those out.

Here is a preview of what I’ve been up to in the past few months:

And last but not least, I collaborated on a beautiful photoshoot that was featured in Utterly Engaged’s Issue #008!

New “Engagements” gallery; Theresa’s engagement

November 11, 2009 by Clara Kim

I just added a new Engagements gallery to the portfolio section of my website! Check it out here.

Here’s a sneak peek of Theresa’s engagement photos. We decided on a soft, pretty and natural look with slightly smoky eyes.

Julie and JP’s wedding

October 27, 2009 by Clara Kim

Julie isn’t the type to wear much makeup on an everyday basis, and keeping that in mind, I went for the natural look for both ceremonies.

For Julie’s Friday ceremony, we decided to leave her hair down with one side pulled and pinned with a fragrant gardenia behind her ear. I used light taupe and ivory shades on her eyes along with cool toned pink blush and lips. The simple elegance of her hair and makeup offset the clean lines of her gown and suited her intimate garden ceremony.

For Saturday’s large Indian celebration, I styled Julie’s hair in a soft updo enhanced with traditional Indian jewelry, and balanced a stronger red lip with neutral eyes and individual false eyelashes.

Bay Area wedding

September 29, 2009 by Clara Kim

Since I lived there for several years, the Bay Area is like my home away from home, and some of my dearest friends live up there. I’m flying up tonight to meet with my friend Julie who is getting married this weekend and celebrating with two separate ceremonies. Tomorrow is our trial, and I think I’ll try out a natural makeup look with half-up half-down hair for her small Friday ceremony, and then a slightly more dramatic look with a soft romantic updo for her larger Saturday ceremony.

I am excited that the weather is decidedly more autumnal (finally!). After a long summer, I am looking forward to digging up my sweaters and jackets and boots and scarves, especially since the weather in SF is always cooler than LA.

MAC master class and update

September 16, 2009 by Clara Kim

I recently attended a MAC Cosmetics Master Class in Bridal Beauty led by Victor C. It was held at the South Coast Plaza MAC Pro store and consisted of equal parts tips and tricks that Victor has amassed over the past 15 years of working at MAC and doing hundreds of weddings, as well as a live demonstration of two different bridal looks in collaboration with Julie, another MAC makeup artist and trainer. It was fun and informative, and I picked up some good techniques as well as a few new additions to my kit.

I’m also very excited to announce that I’ll be working with Theresa Huang of Theresa Huang Makeup & Hair Design. She does amazing work, and I am looking forward to being part of her team. I’ll still be freelancing and doing my own weddings, but this is a great opportunity for me to get hands-on training (especially with bridal hair) from an experienced artist.

In addition, I have several weddings and photoshoots coming up in the next few months. I’m definitely keeping busy!

Boudoir shoot: Toni

September 2, 2009 by Clara Kim

I just got the photos from the boudoir shoot I did with Mimi Nguyen and Toni a few weeks ago, and they are beyond amazing! Mimi has such a great eye, and she is really good at directing her subjects and making them feel at ease. Toni was so sweet and fun to work on; she confided  that it was her first time getting her makeup professionally done, and that the shoot was a surprise for her fiance. She asked if I do brows too, and luckily I had my tweezers and brow trimming scissors with me to do a bit of clean up and shaping. :) Also, since her hairstylist wasn’t able to make it, I did her hair using a 1.25″ ceramic curling iron for tousled sexy curls, finished with bumble & bumble Spray de Mode before and after curling, for flexible hold.

Onto the pics! (Click on pics for larger view)

Getting ready.

Isn’t she stunning?

Toni has naturally lush lashes (look how nice her bottom lashes are!) which I enhanced with MAC #36 lashes, my favorite for a natural yet glam look. (click for larger pic!)

I think this one’s my favorite. Love the soft, sweet, antiquey look.

I think Toni looks like an old Hollywood movie star here!

This one is my second favorite. Love the fiance’s
shirt/tie and blue coffee mug!

Before and after: Boudoir makeup

August 20, 2009 by Clara Kim

I had so much fun doing makeup and hair at Toni’s boudoir session earlier this week (in collaboration with the fabulous Mimi of Mimi Nguyen Photography). I especially love boudoir makeup because it gives me an excuse to do smoky eyes, which are my favorite (you can ask any of my friends). Toni is naturally gorgeous, which made my job really easy. I played up her eyes with shimmery pink, bronze and charcoal eyeshadow, lots of black liner and lush lashes. Soft pink cheeks and lips completed the look.

Doesn’t she look stunning? :) I will upload Mimi’s pics when they are available. I know they will be absolutely amazing!
